How you define things (including calories) affects your perspective (& your reality distortion field)

My good friend Roman Rollnick sent this (even though he’s in the communications field he’s conspicuously not on the web, hence no hyperlink).
I laughed. Then I thought about the effects definitions have on us.
How we define things sets the parameters of our thinking. From whose fault it is that those extra pounds continue to cling to magical thinking to our reality distortion field (a term coined by Steve Jobs) we’re barraged by the effects of our worldview.
Language is powerful.
So is how we define the words we use to weave our world perspective.
~~TGIF- each Friday I rejig & re-post a blog entry from my www.life-lenses.com blog, which is about enhancing our perspective & worldview.~~

Hi Lee-Anne
Often times our definitions are birthed out of personal experiences – be they first hand or by osmosis. By “re-writing” our personal history, (revising significant influencers based on our current understanding of words used to shape us) we can begin to re-shape our thinking/reaction to words spoken to us going forward.
The saying “sticks and stones can break my bones but WORDS WILL NEVER HURT ME” is one of the biggest misnomers ever written.
We need to add “UNLESS I LET THEM” to this little ditty to make the clear point that we control, to a large extent, the power and influence of words in our life – you can say what you want to me but it is how I filter those words that gives them power, meaning, influence etc.
Thanks for the blog… now I am off to find some Calorie Creature Spray to kill off those nasty pests!
Cheers

Thanks so much for taking the time to post such a thoughtful reply. Really appreciate it. As I look out my window onto my avocado tree which has ripening fruit on it, am remembering what I love so much about BC. Happy hunting for your ‘calorie creature spray’ 🙂
